Stronger Together
Our Partners
The More the Merrier
It Takes a Village (and a Few Vans)
No lighthouse shines alone. Our partners in Puerto Rico and the mainland help our animals travel, find foster homes, and connect with families ready to welcome them. Together, we give more dogs and cats the chance to find a home.
“I’ve been working closely with El Faro for 10 years. Seeing the passion and the way they pour themselves into their life-saving work was one of the things that inspired me to join their organization. I know that Liza, Evelyn, Monica and their team will not rest until every sato finds sanctuary!” — Tania Isenstein
The Sato Project
Creating pathways to better lives for Puerto Rico's satos.
Through SATO United, The Sato Project's free flight program, rescue animals from El Faro can travel to adopters, fosters and partner shelters on the mainland. Every flight means another sato on the way home, and more room for the next rescue.
Together, we create more second chances.

Animal Lighthouse Rescue
Animal Lighthouse Rescue (ALR) is El Faro’s sister shelter in New York City. Once our dogs are rescued and rehabilitated, we arrange their journey north to ALR.
ALR coordinates foster homes, organizes adoption events, showcases our dogs, and interviews potential adopters. Their work helps our satos find loving forever homes, ideally with a warm coat for their first winter.
Island Partner · Puerto Rico
Palmas Animal Welfare
Palmas Animal Welfare Group works to find loving homes for animals right here in Puerto Rico. When the island’s needs exceed local capacity, they collaborate with rescue organizations across Puerto Rico and the mainland United States to find foster homes and permanent placements.
Generous donors help cover food, veterinary care, and transportation, giving more animals a chance at a happy ending.
Adoption Partner · Atlantic City, NJ
Humane Society of Atlantic County
The Humane Society of Atlantic County in Atlantic City, New Jersey, has worked alongside El Faro to save many animals over the years.
Its strong adoption program allows the organization to welcome thousands of animals, including many of our satos, and connect them with families ready to give them a home. That means more happy tails on the Jersey Shore.
Foster Partner · Manhattan
Camp Canine
Camp Canine is a locally owned luxury doggy daycare and boarding business with multiple locations in Manhattan.
Throughout the year, Camp Canine fosters El Faro dogs, often caring for 12 to 15 at a time. Their support gives our satos a safe, comfortable place to stay while they await adoption and experience a little of the good life along the way.
